Briefly describe the project:The project on my half has gone deeper into the shopbot work. Now that my computer is complete, Ive been explorering the shopbot to discover more techniques. This week I worked with making signs. I use the V-Carve bit and been ingraving letters into pieces of wood. I made Names, Logos, etc.

What has your group accomplished this week?

This week my group has accomplished alot. I made about half a dozen of signs using the new technique with the shopbot. Theo finally cut out the rest of his guitar using the shopbot. The reason we were so successful this week because we overcome a huge problem.

 

 

What problems has your group overcome this week?

Theo finally was able to cut out the outline of his guitar. He had trouble cutting it out because the computer keeps loosing connection with the shopbot. I downloaded the new version of SHOPBOT 3 and installed it. The new version is very recent and come out last month. We also unplug the ethernet cable to avoid outside bandwich. We hope this accomplished the problem.

 

 

 

 

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?

The next thing im going to lean towards is 3d modeling. Using the 3d modeling I will be using millwizard and a solid piece of oak or pine.

The project is revolved around ths shopbot. Tom used the shop bot to make the design of his computer case of the front and back of it. Theo and Taylor are using the shot bot to make guitars. Kouble is using the shop bot to make a custom effects pedal for his guitar. Everyone is using the shopbot together to make thier own custom design of their project. We help and teach each other along the way to solve problems and accomplish tasks.

What has your group accomplished this week?

I have completed my computer case. It is assembled completely and runs successfully. Theo has cut out his guitar today but the shop bot didnt finish it on the last leg, so he will use the band saw to cut the rest. I have also cut out a ships wheel, an anchor, and 2 swords for prom decorations.

 

 

What problems has your group overcome this week?

One of the problems i ran into was the door of my computer. The door did not completly shut but i was able to use the belt sander to make a perfect fit. There were not any problems with the prom decorations.

 

 

What are the most significant problems your group faces at this time? What will you do to meet these problems?

 

The most significant problem would have to be the shop bot disconnection. Chad told us a way to resume a file at a certain point instead of starting the whole piece all over again.

 

 

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?

We can display it to the DHS music programs and kids taking guitar classes can experience a handmade guitar.

The main tool used wood be the shopbot but other smaller woodworking tools would be used as well. supplies would be purchased ourselves for the projects, such as wood screws, etc. And there is minimal storage space needed.

What has your group accomplished at this time?

 

My group has accomplished a lot at this time. My case is assembled and I have 2 coats of stain on it. The case is made out of oak plywood and held together with screws. I am at the step polying my case. Then I'll have to add the inside pieces to it, such as the harddrives and cd roms.

 

What problems has your group overcome?

 

We've fixed the problem of the shopbot getting disconnected fromt he computer. I figured it out by readign the help manuel in the shopbot program. There cant be any other programs running at the same time and windows update. Ive had a problem screwing in the screws in the plywood, the plywood cracked easily but i was able to fix it but pre-drilling. When the shopbot was cutting the piece out, bits of the design were cut off ont he edge and i fixed this problem by using wood filler.

 

 

What are the most significant problems your group faces?

 

 

We've fixed the problem of the shopbot getting disconnected fromt he computer. This was a big problem because before this problem was fixed the shopbot would get disconnected and the cutting would stop. So it would have to start all over again. It happened multiple times until i found out that windows update cannot be running. This fixed the problem right away.

 

 

 

What materials or information do you need? How do you plan on getting these materials or information?

 

The materials I will need in the future is steel wool, polyurathane, dowel, hinges, hook, clock. I have supplied all of these items except for the polyurathane. I am planning to use the polyurathane supplied by mr. connors.
